[painting as an outlet]
I've always enjoyed photoshopping pictures of friends into strange or confusing compositions. With so little free time during startup life, creating and sharing them was sometimes my only way to stay connected. When I started trying to teach myself acrylic painting, this was the most natural source of reference material.
The subject matter came from reflecting on my choice to start a company. I had been hell-bent on starting a company for years, and jumped at the chance to do it full time. I would often see friends' pictures of weekend brunches, and feel unimpressed by my comparatively sad Hot Pocket dinner from the previous night. These paintings were an attempt to process some of those reflections as I worked through them.
